BBC Breakfast issued a devastating death announcement as presenter Sarah Campbell ran through the morning’s top news bulletins. Just minutes into the show, Sarah announced: “A murder investigation has been launched after a mother and her two children were found dead at a house near Bedford. Police officers forced entry to the property in Great Denham after the family weren’t seen for several days. Bedfordshire Police believe the suspect, who is known to the family, has fled the country.”
The show then went to the statement made by Assistant Chief Constable John Murphy from Bedfordshire Police, who said: “This is a deeply distressing incident, and our thoughts are first and foremost with those who are directly affected. I would ask anyone who may have information, or who has seen or heard of any suspicious activity, especially on Carnoustie Drive on Friday or Saturday, to please come forward as soon as possible. Any information, no matter how small, could help with our investigation.”
The force said formal identification had to be completed before the identities of the deceased or the suspect could be publicly released.
