Olympic swimming legend Adam Peaty is reportedly taking the final step in distancing himself from his family after registering for this summer’s Commonwealth Games under his new married surname, becoming Adam Ramsay-Peaty.
The three-time Olympic gold medallist, now 31, is preparing to compete for Team England in Glasgow this July — where he hopes to make history by becoming the first British swimmer to win gold medals at four consecutive Commonwealth Games. But while the sporting achievement is huge, the name change has reignited intense attention around his bitter family feud.

Adam, who married influencer Holly Ramsay in December, will now officially compete under the double-barrelled surname that links him to the famous Ramsay family — a move many see as symbolic following his growing estrangement from his own parents, Mark and Caroline Peaty.
Speaking about the upcoming Games, Adam said: “Being selected to represent your country is always an honour, and there is something special about a home Commonwealth Games.”
He added: “The event also marks a significant milestone in my international career, which began in Glasgow 12 years ago at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.”
But behind the scenes, the emotional fallout surrounding Adam’s relationship with his family continues to cast a shadow over his success.

According to reports, tensions exploded before his wedding after Holly allegedly failed to invite Adam’s mother Caroline to her hen party — despite inviting high-profile guests including Tana Ramsay, Tilly Ramsay, and even Victoria Beckham.
The row reportedly became so severe that Caroline was ultimately banned from attending the wedding altogether.
Sources close to the family claimed Adam had “changed so much” since becoming part of the Ramsay circle, with one insider alleging he no longer felt his own family were “good enough” for the glamorous new life he now lives.
The heartbreak is even more painful considering the extraordinary sacrifices his parents made to support his Olympic dream.
Long before the medals, fame, and celebrity connections, Adam’s mother Caroline was waking up at 4am every day to drive her son to training sessions in Derby — despite hating driving and often running on almost no sleep.
Recalling those years, she said: “I’d get up at four in the morning, drive him 40 minutes to Derby, sit and wait two hours while he was training, then drive him back and do a full day’s work.”
She added: “I was so tired all the time. But Adam’s willpower was stronger than mine and he’d say, ‘Come on Mum, no staying in bed.’”

Money was so tight at one stage that neighbours organised fundraising barbecues and Christmas parties just to help cover petrol costs for competitions around the UK.
Caroline and Mark reportedly gave up holidays, sleep, and financial stability to support their son’s career. In fact, Caroline had never even flown abroad until the 2016 Rio Olympics because every bit of annual leave had been spent travelling across Britain for Adam’s races.
That sacrifice paid off spectacularly when Adam stormed to Olympic gold in Rio, while emotional scenes showed Caroline sobbing with pride in the crowd as her son stood on the podium.
In recent years, Adam has spoken openly about his struggles with depression and alcoholism, admitting he reached a point where he lost himself outside of swimming.
During his break from competition in 2023, Caroline revealed she had noticed a major difference in him.
“He was more like our Adam again,” she said. “He was like the son we sort of lost along the journey.”
She explained that swimming had once completely consumed his life, adding: “Swimming always came first, which it had to do.”
Despite the painful estrangement, Caroline also insisted she believed her son was happier after stepping back from the sport for a period, saying: “I think he’s a better Adam personally than what he was before.”
Meanwhile, Adam has increasingly praised the support he receives from the Ramsay family, especially celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
The swimmer previously described Gordon’s wedding speech as unforgettable and thanked Holly’s family for the “support and love” they have shown him.
“It was always going to be hard to beat Gordon’s speech,” Adam admitted.
“Having Holly’s family there for the support and the love they have for us is incredible.”
