Coronation Street fans think they have worked out who will kill Megan Walsh. The teacher, played by newcomer Beth Nixon, was introduced as the sports coach of teenager Will Driscoll, and it was soon revealed that they were having an illicit relationship.
Megan resorted to desperate measures to cover it all up, including starting up a fake relationship with Daniel Osborne (Rob Mallard), threatening schoolboy Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) when he discovered the truth, and even aborted Will’s baby to avoid getting caught. It’s been heavily implied that the whole thing has been going on since before Will reached the age of consent and, after the whole thing was discovered, Will’s grandmother Maggie was particularly furious, even pushing Megan down the stairs in a fit of rage at one point.
But also on the warpath is Will’s stepmum Eva Price (Catherine Tydlesley), as well Sam’s stepmum Leanne, and their sister Toyah, have become hellbent on making Megan pay for what she has done. Coronation Street has been through numerous format changes in the last few years that have taken it away from the traditional linear exploration of everyday life on a Manchester backstreet, and viewers are now in the middle of a much-hyped Murder Week.
In another radical change, bosses decided to air a flashforward earlier this year that confirmed that either Megan, or one of her fellow villains – Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard), Theo Silverton (James Cartwright), Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon), Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown) would be killed off in scenes that are playing out this week, with each episode detailing the same day’s events but from each character’s point of view.
As Thursday’s episode, which was released early on ITVX, opened, Kool & The Gang’s Ladies Night blared through the initial scenes as incidental music and saw Eva and her sisters take hold of Megan for an interrogation, demanding that she make a full confession to the police. But Megan refused to back down, as she said: ” I know where the bodies are buried!”, letting slip that Leanne had informed her that Toyah caused the death of her husband Imran several years ago.
Toyah slapped Megan right across the face, and the dispute spiralled even further. When Megan reminded the trio that they were the reason she had lost her baby, Eva shot back: “Every cloud. It’s one less barmpot on the streets, innit?!”
She then reminded Megan that it didn’t matter where she tried to hide, she would eventually find her and “ruin her life.” With a bloodied nose, Megan stormed out and caught DC Kit Green outside, to whom she tried to report the assault, but he refused to help because he was off duty.
Daniel, who split up with Megan when everything with Will started to come out, took pity on her, Megan, and took her in to get her cleaned up, but had some choice words for her as he said: ” You really don’t give a toss about the harm you’ve caused to those boys, do you? You used me! I introduced my son to you, and you’re a predator.”
Whilst all this was going on, Will’s mum, Melanie, was back on the scene, and she seems to be the only one to know that Maggie killed her husband several years ago by pushing him down the stairs, and Megan overheard this information when they were discussing it in the backyard of the Rovers. To Maggie’s horror, she recorded it all then fled the scene, but when police arrived at the Rovers to arrest Eva and Leanne on suspicion of false imprisonment, Maggie had had enough.
She found Megan hovering around the precinct flats, where she was on the phone to someone called Charlie, seemingly making plans to escape to him. Megan then raged to Maggie: ” I want to live a peaceful life, so get your feral family off my back,” and as she started to make her way down the stairs, Maggie followed her and slammed the door.
But, in a surprise turn of events, viewers of the soap actually think that Megan could meet her maker in the form of Will, whom she groomed in the first place, predicting that the teenager overheard Megan admit that she aborted the baby.
Writing on X, one fan said: “I think it’s Will who ends up pushing Megan down those stairs, she hears her admit to Maggie she terminated his baby and he finally realises she never really loved him and snaps!”
Another said: “Will goes to check on Megan after the Bananarama attack, only to find her and Maggie mid-argument. He hears Megan admit to the termination and saying she’s done with him. He loses it and shoves her—dead. Maggie will try to cover it up by telling him to go with his mum.”
