I’m A Celebrity’s Craig Charles chokes back tears over ‘unbroadcastable’ Jimmy row
Craig Charles became emotional on This Morning discussing an ‘unbroadcastable’ row between Adam Thomas and Jimmy Bullard.
The wait is nearly finished to find out which celebrity will be crowned jungle champion on this year’s I’m A Celebrity…South Africa.
ITV will broadcast its live final on Friday (April 24) as audiences will determine who they want to triumph from Harry Redknapp, Mo Farah, Craig Charles and Adam Thomas.
Prior to the eagerly awaited episode, three of the finalists featured on This Morning to chat with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary about their feelings.
Nevertheless, the conversation swiftly shifted to Adam Thomas, who was absent from the interview, as Craig wasted no opportunity in addressing the heated confrontation between Adam and Jimmy Bullard this week.
Craig emphasised that Adam’s eruption was a response to what had been occurring in camp with David Haye, who was repeatedly making comments to the soap actor.
Craig alleged that the complete footage of Adam’s confrontation with Jimmy wasn’t shown, which made it appear as though he and Harry were exaggerating.
Growing visibly upset, he continued: “They didn’t water down our responses. So people are thinking, ‘It wasn’t that bad, why are they picking on Adam?’
“We weren’t picking on Adam at all, we saved him again because I thought Adam was my friend.”
He explained to the pair that his recollections of jungle life involved laughter, though the footage being broadcast has portrayed events entirely differently.
With his voice wavering, Craig revealed: “I voted to get David out, and then I thought it’d be great, but then the Jimmy Bullard thing kicked off.
“No one has asked about Jimmy’s feelings, again, ITV have a duty of care, because David had bullied him so much he exploded on Jimmy,” he claimed.
Alison immediately embraced Craig, noticing his emotional state, as she commented: “I’m going to give you a hug because that was a big thing.”
Fighting back tears, Craig continued: “These guys (Mo and Harry) by association have suffered reputational damage. With the social media campaign, they’ve given this 80-year-old man abuse on social media just because he said, ‘I don’t like the way that Adam reacted’”
Alison pointed out that this represents the difficulty with programmes that undergo particular editing, implying that this week must have been “hell” for everyone involved.
ITV had previously issued a statement asserting that they broadcast an accurate representation of the confrontation between Adam and Jimmy.
Addressing claims that Adam had “kicked” Jimmy, a statement issued to the Daily Mirror read: “This is categorically not true. Adam did not try to kick Jimmy.”
The broadcaster further noted that while Thomas had evidently vented his frustration, the kick was directed at a door and “nowhere near” Jimmy.
ITV concluded: “We show an accurate and fair representation of events.”
