Everything you need to know about Declan Donnelly’s anxiety battle…

  • Declan Donnelly is known for his bubbly and cheeky personality on the screen for over two decades. With presenting duties on the likes of Britain’s Got Talent and I’m A Celeb after rising to fame alongside Ant McPartlin on Byker Grove, the British public grew to love his lively side. But he has admitted he has dealt with a silent struggle.
  • The Geordie star, 50, has spoken for the first time about his silent health battle. He shared he has “constant anxiety” and the feeling that he should always be doing something, admitting he “can never sit down”.
  • Speaking to Fearne Cotton on her Happy Place podcast, Dec confessed: “I struggle a bit with, it’s kind of a low-level, constant anxiety about ‘should be doing this’ or ‘I’ve got to be doing…”I never feel I can sit down and just watch telly, I always feel like I should be doing something else. There’s that anxiety that there’s a job that needs to be done somewhere and I should be doing it.
  • He added: “I struggle with that a lot, with trying to calm that voice in the back of your head that’s going, ‘no, you should be using this time more productively’. I went through a period of having therapy about five, five or six years ago. I really got a lot out of it. I really enjoyed it.”
  • Dec’s admission comes after best pal Ant revealed he is “working hard on himself”. Dec previously praised Ant for turning his life around after being convicted of drink driving in 2018 and becoming a ‘better person’. Ant was arrested for the incident in 2018,
  • Speaking to The Times about Ant’s lifestyle change, Declan said: “What I most admire is that with the challenges he’s faced, especially over the last few years, Ant took responsibility and real action.” He added: “He worked on himself so much to get back not just to being himself but actually being a much better person than he was before.”
