A recent doctor’s visit involving Michael Strahan quickly raised concern across the NFL world. Given that his daughter had previously overcome a cancer battle, many fans were understandably anxious when they saw the update. However, the former Giants defensive end soon revealed the real reason behind the visit by posting a photo of himself with his doctor on social media.

“Great seeing my guy @leegause at @smiledesignmanhattan for a nice cleaning!” Michael Strahan wrote on Instagram. “I know some have tooth jokes so I’ll beat you to it! There’s a sign on my right tooth with an arrow pointing to my left tooth that says ‘Next Tooth One Mile’ They may not be together but they’re clean!
”
Thankfully, Strahan’s health update turned out to be nothing alarming. It was simply a routine dental appointment. He visited Smile Design Manhattan for a teeth cleaning and later shared a cheerful picture with his dentist, Dr. Lee Gause. In the photo, both men were smiling, with Strahan’s famous tooth gap proudly on display.
This was not Strahan’s first visit to Dr. Gause. The former NFL star has been a regular patient and even once used his dentist’s help to pull off a memorable prank on fans. In 2021, Strahan appeared to close his well-known tooth gap, only to later reveal it was an April Fool’s Day joke. At the time, he said he wanted to see what he would look like without the gap after nearly 50 years.
This time, however, there was no prank involved. Fans were simply relieved to learn the appointment was only for a dental cleaning. Strahan also joked about his tooth gap, proving once again that he is comfortable with his signature smile and has no plans to change it.
While Strahan appears to be doing well personally, his professional future has become a bigger talking point following his recent comments about retirement.
Michael Strahan Opens Up About Retirement
Michael Strahan retired from the NFL in 2007 after winning the Super Bowl with the New York Giants. One year later, he joined FOX NFL and became part of the network’s Sunday pregame show. Since then, he has remained a regular and familiar presence on the broadcast. Last week, the former defensive end opened up about what may come next.
“Retirement,” Strahan said on the New Heights podcast. “I love Fox. But you work so much. I want to go here, I want to go there, and I can’t do a lot of things because I’ve got these commitments and schedules. At this point, I have to look at time lived and time left.”
Former Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson also stepped away from FOX NFL last year. At over 80 years old, retirement appeared to be a natural next step for him. Strahan, however, is only 54 and remains at the height of his media career. Even so, his comments made fans wonder how long he plans to continue.
Still, Strahan made it clear that he is not planning to vanish from television anytime soon.
“I’m not just going to completely disappear,” he said. “I’ll do FOX until they throw me off of FOX. I don’t want to be 80 years old on FOX, but I’ll stick around a little bit longer.”
Alongside his FOX role, Strahan has also spent nearly a decade as a co-host on ABC’s Good Morning America. Last year, he reportedly signed a new contract with the show that included a lighter schedule, which some viewed as a possible step toward slowly reducing his media workload.
Family may also be playing a major role in how Strahan thinks about the future. His daughter, Isabella Strahan, was diagnosed with a 4-centimeter brain tumor in October 2023. After a difficult battle, she was cleared in July 2024, making her health and family time one of his biggest priorities.
After nearly two decades in the media spotlight, it is no surprise that retirement has crossed Michael Strahan’s mind. But for now, the Giants legend continues to balance family, football, television, and personal life — while leaving his next move just mysterious enough to keep everyone watching.
